PDRN vs PN in Seoul: Is Rejuran Really a ‘Salmon Sperm Facial’?

The short answer: Rejuran is PN, not a trend nickname

PharmaResearch identifies REJURAN as PN, or polynucleotide, and lists a 2 cc syringe with temporary improvement of facial wrinkles as its intended purpose. Le Moir's current product page also describes the REJURAN family as fish-derived PN and separates REJURAN, HB Plus, I and S because their formulations and intended areas are not identical.

PDRN and PN are related DNA-derived materials, but they are not precise synonyms. A 2025 scientific review describes PN as longer DNA fragments and PDRN as relatively shorter oligonucleotide sequences, with differences in molecular weight and proposed biological activity. That distinction is a reason to read the actual label—not a reason to assume one category is universally stronger.

The phrase ‘salmon sperm facial’ is an informal internet shortcut. It does not identify the manufacturer, PN or PDRN, product variant, route, amount, treatment area or local authorization. The word ‘facial’ can also make an injectable sound like topical surface care when needles, consent and medical screening are involved.

PN and PDRN: similar origin does not make the products interchangeable

The useful distinction begins with the exact product. Ingredient source alone cannot tell you fragment size, concentration, formulation, sterility, delivery route, intended purpose or the evidence that applies to that brand. A topical cosmetic, an injectable medical device and a medicine containing a related DNA-derived material should not be grouped as one treatment because a social post uses the same nickname.

Even inside the REJURAN family, the suffix matters. Le Moir's official information notes that HB Plus includes PN with hyaluronic acid and lidocaine, while REJURAN I is considered for thinner eye-area skin. Fish or lidocaine allergy, active infection, medicines and previous reactions can change the conversation.

If someone recommends ‘PDRN’ without naming the sealed product, ask them to slow down. The safest comparison is product against product, with the same route, amount, area and intended use—not acronym against acronym.

What the evidence supports—and what it still cannot answer

A 2025 systematic review of PN in aesthetic medicine found nine studies with 219 participants. The studies used different areas and injection techniques and were rated low or moderate in quality. The authors reported promising findings for wrinkles, texture and elasticity, while also stating that consensus on optimal use was limited and stronger research was needed.

A July 2026 systematic review narrowed its analysis to seven randomized trials with 183 participants across skin rejuvenation, scar prevention and wound healing. No serious treatment-related adverse events were reported in those trials, but the authors emphasized small samples, mixed protocols and variable outcome measures. Evidence from wound healing also cannot be copied directly into a promise about a cosmetic REJURAN session.

So the calm answer is neither ‘it does nothing’ nor ‘it regenerates every face.’ Current evidence is encouraging but heterogeneous. It cannot choose your product, dose, treatment layer, number of sessions or likely result without an examination—and study averages are not a guarantee for one person.

Recovery belongs in the decision, especially on a Seoul trip

Le Moir's current REJURAN information lists temporary raised injection points, redness, swelling, bruising and pain among possible reactions. Their visibility and duration vary with the variant, amount, area, delivery method and individual response. A low-downtime nickname is not a promise that you will be camera-ready or comfortable on a fixed date.

Tell the doctor about fish-derived product or lidocaine allergy, active skin infection, autoimmune or inflammatory conditions, anticoagulants and other medicines, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and every recent procedure. These details are more useful than arriving with a trend term alone.

For a short trip, leave time for an early review and keep a local urgent-contact route. Before flying home, record the exact product, variant, amount, area, date, delivery method and written aftercare. Seek prompt local assessment for symptoms the treating clinician identifies as urgent rather than waiting for a routine message reply.

A friend-to-friend checklist before you consent

Start with what you want to change—fine texture, dryness, a specific wrinkle or another concern—then ask the doctor whether an injectable is appropriate at all. If REJURAN is proposed, look at the sealed package and match its full name with the treatment record and written quote.

Ask why this variant and total cc fit the assessed area, how it will be delivered, what reactions are expected, what would be unusual, and when an in-person review is possible. If a before-and-after image is shown, ask whether it is the same product, area, amount and follow-up interval and whether other treatments were used.

Finally, compare the whole plan rather than the trend label: product, evidence, clinician, treatment record, recovery margin, follow-up and final price including VAT. A careful consultation can still end with skincare, postponement or no injection, and that can be a good outcome.
