Botulinum toxin products are prescription medicines that reduce signaling between a nerve and a selected muscle. In cosmetic care, the aim is usually to soften movement that contributes to expression lines or to reduce the pull or bulk of a specific muscle.

Botox, Xeomin, Dysport and other products are not interchangeable by a simple unit conversion. Each product has its own formulation, labeling and potency assay. A quote only makes sense when it names the product, area, dose and clinician.

The goal is not necessarily a motionless face. Placement and dose should be matched to your anatomy, baseline asymmetry and the expressions you want to preserve.

These names are useful shorthand, not standardized recipes. The same number of units distributed across a face and neck is not equivalent to that dose placed into one strong muscle.

Timing, recovery and risks

Small raised bumps, redness, tenderness or bruising can occur at injection points. The effect is not immediate and it also wears off over time. Build enough margin before an important event for the result to settle and for a review if needed.

Possible unwanted effects include asymmetry, headache, dry eye, eyelid or brow droop and weakness in a nearby muscle. Botulinum toxin labels also carry a warning about distant spread of toxin effect; urgent medical attention is needed for problems with breathing, speaking or swallowing.

Tell the doctor about pregnancy or breastfeeding, infection near the planned injection site, neuromuscular conditions, previous reactions and medicines that may affect neuromuscular transmission.
