Belotero Revive vs SKINVIVE Before an Autumn Seoul Trip: Glycerol, Lidocaine and Skin Quality

The short answer: two HA gels, not one interchangeable treatment

If a friend asked me to choose from the words ‘hydration’ and ‘glow,’ I would pause. Belotero Revive and SKINVIVE are both cross-linked hyaluronic-acid injectables discussed in skin-quality care, but their concentration, companion ingredient, authorized purpose and clinical evidence are different. Neither should be selected from a trend name alone.

Belotero Revive contains 20 mg/mL cross-linked sodium hyaluronate plus 17.5 mg/mL glycerol. The current US SKINVIVE directions describe 12 mg/mL cross-linked HA plus 0.3% lidocaine. Glycerol is part of the Belotero formulation; lidocaine in SKINVIVE is a local anesthetic. Those facts do not create a simple ‘more hydrating’ or ‘more comfortable’ winner.

Le Moir currently lists both products. That confirms availability, not individual suitability. The useful first step is to name the concern—roughness, fine lines, dry-feeling skin, scarring, pigmentation, redness, laxity or volume loss—because several of those problems may need another plan or no injectable at all.

Belotero Revive: HA plus glycerol, with a country-specific label

Merz Aesthetics Korea lists Belotero Revive as 20 mg/mL cross-linked sodium hyaluronate with 17.5 mg/mL glycerol. Its current Korean authorized purpose is temporary improvement of mild-to-moderate perioral fine lines through physical restoration in adults. That wording is narrower than the broad ‘full-face hydration’ language a traveler may see online.

The international instructions describe early photodamaged facial skin, dehydration, elasticity, firmness and fine superficial lines, with placement in the mid-to-deep dermis. The contrast is important: European or international instructions do not silently expand the Korean label. A Seoul proposal should identify the exact local indication, area, layer and whether any part is outside the current label before consent.

A randomized multicenter study of 159 people reported improvements in measures of facial skin roughness after HA plus glycerol treatment. Other studies include a 15-person viscoelasticity study, a 24-person split-face comparison and smaller observational work. They are useful signals, but product sponsorship, modest sample sizes, selected populations and differing techniques limit what they can predict for one traveler.

SKINVIVE: lower-concentration HA plus lidocaine, with evolving US indications

The current US directions identify SKINVIVE by JUVÉDERM as 12 mg/mL BDDE-cross-linked HA with 0.3% lidocaine. The FDA first approved it for intradermal cheek smoothness in 2023. A June 2026 supplement added intradermal and subdermal use for horizontal neck lines in adults over 21 in the United States.

That 2026 US update does not automatically define the Korean indication, and ‘cheeks and neck’ should not be reused as a universal treatment map. Le Moir’s physician should explain the current Korean authorization, the proposed area and depth, and any off-label element in language you understand.

Before treatment, ask to see the sealed box or syringe, expiry and lot, and keep a record of total amount, areas, depth or delivery method. A genuine product photo is useful; it is not evidence that the product fits your concern.

What the evidence can—and cannot—tell you

These products were not established as a head-to-head contest in the sources reviewed for this guide. Comparing separate studies can mislead because the participants, endpoints, injection areas, volumes, techniques and follow-up periods differ. A smoother cheek score in one trial is not the same outcome as a perioral-line or skin-roughness measure in another.

Both are sometimes called skin boosters, while regulators may treat them as injectable medical devices or dermal fillers. Marketing language such as ‘biorevitalization,’ ‘glass skin’ or ‘deep hydration’ does not erase injection risk and does not guarantee visible radiance. Ask the clinician to translate the chosen study endpoint into a modest, observable goal for your own skin.

I would also ask what would make the doctor recommend neither product. Active inflammatory skin disease, infection, an unclear lump from a previous injectable, a primarily pigment-based concern or a request for structural lift can change the plan. Good consultation is allowed to end with skincare, a different treatment, staging or waiting.

Safety: ‘skin quality’ still means an injectable consent

Expected short-term reactions can include redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, itching, firmness, small bumps or unevenness. Infection, persistent swelling, nodules, inflammatory reactions and an unsatisfactory contour are less routine possibilities. The most serious concern with injectable filler material is unintentional entry into a blood vessel, which can cause tissue injury, visual impairment, blindness or stroke.

The Belotero Revive instructions say not to inject into blood vessels and list hypersensitivity to HA, glycerol or BDDE, pregnancy or breastfeeding, age under 18, general infection and active autoimmune disease among contraindications or exclusions. They also advise against treatment in active inflamed or infected skin and in areas with permanent filler. SKINVIVE’s US directions say active inflammation or infection should be controlled first; safety is not established for pregnancy, breastfeeding or people under 22, and additional caution applies with immunosuppression or medicines that increase bleeding.

Seek urgent medical assessment for severe or escalating pain, blanching or dusky skin, vision change, weakness, trouble speaking, trouble breathing or rapidly increasing swelling. Contact the treating clinic promptly for fever, drainage, spreading heat or redness, a firm new nodule, recurrent swelling or recovery that is moving in the wrong direction.

• Name the exact product, concentration, lot, expiry, amount, area and depth.
• Disclose every previous filler, skin booster, biostimulator, thread, laser and energy treatment by date and area.
• Discuss allergy, autoimmune or inflammatory disease, scarring, infection and bleeding risk.
• Ask how the clinic recognizes and manages vascular compromise and delayed inflammatory reactions.
• Keep an English treatment record and a follow-up route that still works after you leave Korea.

How I would fit either option into an autumn Seoul trip

Early autumn can be easier than peak summer for heat and sun planning, but cooler weather does not remove bruising, swelling or injection-site reactions. I would not place a first-time injectable immediately before a wedding, photo shoot, long-haul departure or tightly scheduled work event.

Belotero Revive’s international instructions advise waiting at least two weeks after laser treatment, chemical peeling or dermabrasion and treating only after the skin has fully healed. They also say there are no clinical data for combination use in the same area during one session. SKINVIVE’s patient information advises avoiding strenuous exercise, extensive sun or heat exposure and alcohol during the first 24 hours, and discussing recent or planned lasers, peels or other procedures with the clinician.

Share your arrival, event and departure dates before booking. Leave time for an in-person review, and do not stack procedures merely to fill a short trip. If the planned area, local label, recovery margin or aftercare route is unclear, waiting is a sensible medical choice—not a missed opportunity.
